Portable Recording Units

The newest kid on the block is the Edirol R09 which features high quality solid state recording in a handheld size. With simple operation and great features it represents an ideal recorder for almost anyone. Following hot on it's heels is the Marantz PMD660. Also solid state and only half the size of the PMD670 it still features XLR connectors with phantom power and a robust construction. The PMD671 adds 24bit recording to the list of features.

We have recently been appointed as distributors of the popular Nagra Ares-M ultra-portable recorder which is ideal for replacing old portable MiniDisc machines. Designed for radio applications, the ARES-M offers instant start-up, one button recording, automatic level control, internal loudspeaker, voice operated recording, Low cut filter and onboard graphic audio editor.

Other solid state recorders come in the form of the Fostex FR2 and the HD-P2.

The Fostex FR2 features 24-bit/192kHz uncompressed recording for superb quality and includes a unique 22.05kHz setting for extended recording time. It can record to both CompactFlash and PCMCIA cards for ultimate flexibility and those working with film or video can make use of the optional timecode generator / reader card.

The Tascam HD-P2 is a top quality recorder complete with a full-featured timecode input making it the most affordable recorder with built-in timecode ever made.

The Marantz CDR300 transportable CD recorder is great for anyone who wants their audio available on a universally accepted media right at the end of the recording session. No need to transfer everything to computer to burn a CD! Just finalise the disc and it's ready to use.

With accessories such as stereo, interview or rifle mics, a good quality pair of headphones and perhaps a Rycote windshield and mount the kit is complete for field recording.
